When you think of drinks in Germany, I know that what you likely think of is beer, honestly – me too! Some wine as well but largely beer. Well when I was visiting on my quick 2.5 day trip while at dinner with some friends/colleagues, I mentioned I was considering taking a day and going south from Munich to the mountains area to just enjoy the day. When I mentioned this, because we had been discussing bourbon for various reasons, they immediately shared with me that they had a place for me to visit… a German Whiskey Distillery called Slyrs!
I am always interested in trying somewhere new so I decided to make a stop there before I checked into my hotel for the night and it was right on the way too… boy am I glad I did!
Let’s begin with, Slyrs is in an absolutely beautiful part of the country. Absolutely majestic views!

Attached to the distillery is a café so I popped in to grab a bite of lunch. It was delicious and the ambiance is great with barrel tables and great service. And a dog! You know I am a sucker for a dog. Loki’s human was one of the servers and he was a great addition to the café!

I walked downstairs to the Distillery Store to find out about doing a tour. They are in process of doing an expansion so they had a self-guided tour I could take which I was thrilled with. I’ve toured a number of distilleries, so I know how the process works but I wanted to see the unique elements of Slyrs. They have panels of information in both German and English which was very helpful given my German is very rusty!

The whole place smelled divine. They are actually doing barrel maturation right in the room so you are truly immersed in the process. After wandering through the facility you end up in a very welcoming tasting room that has a fantastic view. Looking one way you looked over barrels and looking the other you saw the majestic outside views.

I had the opportunity to taste 2 of their whiskeys as part of the tour and then was able to add on other tasters of their many options. I thoroughly enjoyed everything I tried and new it was going to be a tough decision in the gift shop trying to decide what I wanted to bring home to share with my friends who appreciate whiskey!

After my tasting I wandered to the gift shop which had so many great things but I knew I had limited space. That said, you know how I feel about mascots so a certain cutie just had to come home with me!

This was a fantastic experience with truly wonderful whiskey. If you are ever in that area, I highly recommend you stop there for a visit!
Zum Wohl!!
